Super Guacamole

Whether you’re stocking up for the Super Bowl or just some cold weather snacks, we’ve got all the basic guacamole fixings you need in one convenient place. Garlic, tomatoes, limes, chips and of course: avocados.

super bowl displayThe avocado is a unique, delicious fruit (yes, fruit!). The tree that it grows on is in the same plant family as cinnamon, camphor and bay laurel. They contain zero cholesterol, but more fiber content than nearly any other fruit. Avocados have more potassium content by weight than bananas, and are also rich in folic acid, vitamin K as well as containing vitamin B6, vitamin C, and vitamin E.

How do you know if one is ripe? It shouldn’t be hard as a rock, and shouldn’t be squishy. It should give just a bit, like chilled butter. They don’t ripen on the tree, in fact they can ‘store’ on the tree for up to 7 months.

Stronger Together has even more information about avocados, and a great recipe for guacamole as well.
