Donations this month go to Minnesota Food Association’s Big River Farms training program. It’s a 3 to 4 year program for immigrant and minority farmers, using an integrated approach to teach farmers the skills that will help them develop successful small farm enterprises.
They train participants to:
- Become certified in organic vegetable production
- Find and develop markets
- Have good business practices, including planning, record keeping and finances
Big River Farms runs a CSA operation as a demonstration plot, and a market for farmers-in-training. They build relationships with, distribute to and connect farmers-in-training to wholesale and retail markets.
